How we reach Falmouth
Every load we bring into Falmouth starts on Route 28. From Tradesman Circle the truck picks up Route 28 westbound through Teaticket and into the village, where the highway narrows into Main Street and the one-way pattern around the Village Green starts to matter. Anything headed for North or West Falmouth usually runs Route 28A or Route 151 instead, which keeps the truck off the downtown grid entirely. Summer changes the arithmetic. From late June the ferry queue and beach traffic on Woods Hole Road and Palmer Avenue can add twenty minutes to a five-mile trip, so we book Falmouth deliveries early in the morning. My driveway is crushed shell and sand. Will the truck sink into it?
Usually not, but the container is the bigger worry rather than the truck. A loaded roll-off concentrates a lot of weight on four small contact points, and soft sand or loose shell lets those points dig in. We lay plywood cribbing under the rails on every soft surface, and on genuinely soft ground we recommend a smaller box emptied twice rather than a large one that sits and settles for two weeks.
Why does my plaster demolition need a smaller dumpster than I expected?
Plaster and lath from an older Falmouth village house weighs roughly two to three times what the same volume of drywall weighs, because it is essentially sand, lime and horsehair on wood. A 20-yard box of plaster can hit its tonnage allowance when it is barely half full. On plaster jobs we usually put in a 10 or 15-yard container and swap it, which costs less than a single overweight load.
