Sandwich is about seventeen miles northeast of our East Falmouth yard, roughly half an hour up Route 130 through Forestdale.
Sandwich was settled in 1637 and incorporated two years later, making it the oldest town on Cape Cod, and that age shows up in the work. Around Shawme Pond and Main Street you are opening houses that predate the republic: hand-split lath, horsehair plaster, board sheathing, chimneys laid in local brick. Debris off a building like that is heavy, dusty and slow to load, and it does not behave the way a modern remodel behaves.
North of Route 6 the town falls inside the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District, created by the legislature in 1973 and run by an elected local committee. How we reach Sandwich
The practical way into Sandwich from East Falmouth is not over a bridge at all. We cut across on Route 151, run a short stretch of Route 28, then pick up Route 130 north through Forestdale into Sandwich Village, where it meets Route 6 at Exit 59. Deliveries to East Sandwich generally come off Route 6A, and anything up near the water runs the Sandwich end of the canal road. Route 6A is the constraint that catches people out. It is narrow, tree-lined and busy in season, with stone walls sitting close to the pavement and driveways that turn off it sharply. Backing a loaded truck out of a 6A driveway in July takes a spotter and some patience. Village streets around Shawme Pond and Town Neck are tighter still, and several of them simply dead-end at the marsh.

Permits, placement and access in Sandwich

Does the Old King's Highway district affect my dumpster?
Not the container itself. The historic district covers exterior appearance north of Route 6, so it governs siding, windows, roofing, additions and outbuildings rather than waste handling. What it does affect is timing. Sandwich has an elected Historic District Committee that reviews exterior work, and approval can take weeks. We would rather deliver the day demolition actually starts than have a box sitting on your lawn waiting for a hearing date.
Why do you recommend a smaller container for an antique house?
Because plaster, lath, brick and full-dimension old lumber are dense. A pre-1900 Sandwich house can fill a 20-yard box to a third of its height and already be at the tonnage included in the rate. Two 10-yard containers swapped out almost always costs less than one 20-yard container that goes over weight. We will ask what year the house went up before we recommend a size, and that question is not small talk.
Can a truck reach a driveway on Route 6A?
Yes, though it takes planning. Route 6A is narrow, tree-lined and carries steady traffic through the summer, and many driveways meet it at a sharp angle with a stone wall on one side. We schedule 6A drops for early morning when traffic is light, and we bring a spotter for anything that needs backing out into the road. Where does Sandwich waste go, and do I need a transfer station sticker?
Sandwich is served by the Upper Cape Regional Transfer Station over in Bourne, which is where residents haul their own material. Access to that facility generally requires a resident sticker or permit, and the fees and rules vary by town. None of that applies to a roll-off from us.
